Rubber Game Vs. Dodgers In Afternoon Tilt

In the news before the game, Colorado have announced that the AAA team is moving to Albuquerque from Colorado Springs.  They are also moving the AA team from Tulsa to New Britain (Conn.) of the Eastern League.  In other news that leaked out, Dick Montfort nixed a Jorge De La Rosa deal at trade deadline that would have netted LHP prospect Eduardo Rodriguez from the Orioles system.

No! Von Hayes once led off the game with a home run and added a grand slam later in the first inning, first person ever to hit two homers in the first inning. Five rbi’s by a leadoff hitter is a record that will never be broken unless a team bats around twice in the inning. Highly unlikely. (I used to follow the Phillies on radio like I do the Rockies now on TV.) Phils won 26-7.

Why can’t these guys spread out the runs a little? 😉 Seriously, every so often they go off like this (15 as of top 7th) and then go back to the more usual puny output.

Rodriguez looks like he’s going to be a stud. That trade might have been worth it for us long term, although it would have hurt short term.

I blame Wilin FOR CALLING SIX INNINGS OF 2-HIT SHUTOUT BALL from DLR today. Seriously, I wish I could’ve seen this one. There’s lots of Giants hating here, but really, in the post Bonds/Dodgers $240 million payroll era the Dodgers are objectively 1000 X more hate-able than the Giants. So spoil away, boys! On this Eduardo Rodriguez guy we coulda had for DLR: kind of meh. 21 year old lefty who’s supposed to throw 90-93, had kind of a crappy… Read more »

I don’t like either the Dodgers or the Giants, never have. At least it looks like we’ll be seeing a post season without the Yankees, Red Sox (sorry roxnsox), and Braves. It will be fun rooting for the Royal, Orioles, Pirates (hopefully), etc.

You have got to be kidding me! Of all the games where TMI should have been used, this was it. I guess they are saving him for the D-Backs tomorrow. After all, we only have a one game lead on them (for worst record) and he may come in handy tomorrow in the race for the second pick in the draft.

Despite the barrage today, I will not be optimistic in the spring.

They could’ve given TMI 3 innings to work out his “issues.” I guess that would’ve been humiliating for the former “closer in waiting.” Bob, your’e right about the Dbacks thing. Remember, the Astros are guaranteed to pick no lower than 2nd because they failed to sign the # 1 pick this year Brady Aiken. And the Rangers seem to have the worst record/first pick sewn up. So we can’t catch up with the Dbacks! That would mean the 4th pick.… Read more »

Actually witnessed the game in person, first this season, from the Rooftop. Well, I saw about 2 innings as it was hot as blazes and standing at the rail with a drink was no fun at all. Lots of folks up there, perhaps 3% paying ANY attention to the game. Saw a bunch of the first where it all got out of hand for LA, and any beatdown of the Dodgers is well worth savoring. Lineup was scrubs by the… Read more »

Did some more research on the trade we didn’t make, DLR to the Orioles for 21 year old left Eduardo Rodriguez. And I’ve changed my mind: we should’ve made that deal. Of course, I benefit from having some excellent stats in the 6 games Rodriguez started for Boston’s AA team AFTER the trade. But he’s consistently been rated as the O’s # 3 prospect, he’s supposed to have a really live arm, and his K:BB rate is pretty encouraging even… Read more »

It was evident all along that DLR wanted to stay in Denver. Why couldn’t the Rox have made the trade and signed him back in the off season? They would have gained some salary relief this season, picked up a good prospect or two, and given DLR a shot at the playoffs. Of course, once out of Denver he may easily have seen the light and not wanted to return. Would he be an unrestricted free agent, and if so,… Read more »

This situation seems to come up several times every year around baseball (Jon Lester and the Red Sox are similar this year). It seems to me (this is unscientific – no stats to back it up), the traded player almost never comes back immediately. Maybe some years down the road – but not the next year.

Ag – I think this analysis needs to be made in context with an overall plan.

A smart team unloading salary of aging players while they still have some value with the goal of opening a “contention window” 3-4 years down the line makes this deal every time.

A team that is stubbornly hanging on to the ill-conceived plan based on their aging, expensive players all miraculously having healthy seasons in 2015 might as well not make the deal.

I’ve mentioned this before. It seems the best games this year haven’t been televised. Why today-not a getaway day and four more home games this week.Anyway, since nothing else has worked for years, and major changes seem unlikely,I submit that the ROX televise NO games next year and they might actually approach .500.

Root Sports contract is not for televising 162 games. Prior to this year, there were restrictions preventing them from televising certain games that conflicted with certain games which were being forced on everyone. Those restrictions were removed for this year and the future. Because there are no longer any restrictions preventing Root Sports from televising any games, they decided they would not televise any day games that occurred Monday through Friday. I expect them to continue this policy in the… Read more »
