Rubber Game vs. Padres 6/12/2016

Colorado repeated a 5-3 lead going into the 9th yesterday similar to Friday night’s game.  The result was different as the Rockies held on to win 5-3 instead of losing 7-5 as they did Friday night.  The difference was Carlos Estevez.  Jason Motte started the ninth and put two on with no outs.  WW summoned Estevez and he got three outs with the help of Dustin Garneau nabbing the base thief to end the game.

WW now says Estevez will be the closer if available.  Motte will do share of closing when Estevez is unavailable.  There’s been other changes as well in the pitching staff.  Jake McGee was put on the DL and surprisingly Tyler Anderson was called up instead of a relief pitcher.  Not only that, Anderson is starting today’s game instead of Eddie Butler.  Also after Thursday’s stellar performance by JDLR, he was moved back into the rotation and will start Tuesday against the Yankees.  Yet to be answered is who has been removed from the rotation for JDLR and Anderson?  Is it Butler, Chris Rusin, or Chettis?  Is it possible that Anderson is being called up for just one start to give Chettis extra time?  The good news is that the Rockies have Monday and Thursday off this week.

Game starts at 2:10 MDT and televised on ROOT-RM and aired on 850AM radio.  The challenge for Anderson today is to avoid throwing first-pitch FBs at the aggressive Padres hitters.  On the other side, can the offense show why Christian Friedrich was released by pounding him today?

Regardless of one’s feelings about Freiderich,we did actually release him for nothing in return.Seems like he would have been good insurance at AAA. Would really suck to lose to both Drewpo and Christian!

Friedrich was DFAed and claimed by the Angels. The Angels returned him to the Rockies because he failed his physical and the Rockies released for the same reason. No one has said why Friedrich failed his physical. No matter how well he is doing, I suspect that sooner than later the cause of him failing his physical will show up and he will be out of baseball. I wish the best of everything for him and am glad he is… Read more »

I’m off on one of my bicycle escapades and have minimal internet access……but felt the need to drop by and eat some crow. I’ve always been critical of the Tyler Anderson draft pick. For many reasons. Because of that, I call him my “bonus” pitcher in the Rox system. What I mean by that is that I expect nothing, so anything we do in fact get is a “bonus” (in my feeble mind). So today was a big bonus. I’ve… Read more »
