Rubber Game vs. Padres’ Bullpen

Juan Nicasio will be asked to stop the Padres’ momentum and the Rockies’ mini-slide.  Donn Roach will start the game for San Diego and is expected to throw around 55 pitches.  The game today is important not only to win the series but also to get any kind of momentum going into Tuesday’s match up against Madison Bumgarner.  As expected, Baby Bull is back in the lineup and Mike McKenry was optioned.  Baby Bull lost ten pounds during his illness, so that remains to be seen if that will affect him in the first few games.  Bud Black has a trick or two up his sleeve today as he put Roach the starting pitcher in the 8-hole and Amarista in the 9th spot.

Miketober, we traded Smith for Outman and Moscoso, and then traded Outman for Stubbs. Smith is a great hitter, and is having a good year, but for the money would you rather have Smith or Blackmon and Dickerson, particularly when you consider defense, and what would we do with yet another lefty outfielder? Early in the year I questioned whether we should have traded Outman for Stubbs and signed Logan, or just kept Outman, but I think that we’re OK.

I am glad that Seth Smith is out of town now = meaning that we are done with the PAds for a while. The Smith trade for Outman and Moscoso was part of the building up arms movement, but when you think of it as Smith for Stubbs, we really blew that trade. It happens. Seth had problems defensively, but he did a good job of hitting lefties later in his career. Good player who can just get very hot… Read more »
