The Colorado Rockies have two objectives on their plates for tonight’s middle-of-the-series match-up with the Arizona Diamondbacks: hold-down the hits, and get some hits. Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (3-3, 4.07) will take the hill for the Rockies against Arizona’s Ian Kennedy (2-3, 4.72) at 6:40 pm MDT at Coors Field in Denver. The Diamondback’s Patrick Corbin dominated Colorado in Monday’s cool and damp loss, and the Rockies will seek to regain the game lost in the Standings.
Chacin took the loss in Thursday’s fall-from-ahead loss to San Francisco. He allowed 8 runs and 9 hits in
5-1/3 innings of work, and will be looking to rebound from the shaky outing. The right-handed Kennedy beat Atlanta on Wednesday. He went 5, and surrendered 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 3 walks. He struck-out 7.
Walt Weiss has Charlie Blackmon on in right-field for Fumble-Fingers Young, batting 2nd. Jordan Pacheco is at 1st and DJ LeMahieu spells Josh Rutledge at 2nd. Cody Ross is on for Arizona with AJ Pollack getting a rest.
Skies in LoDo will be partly cloudy with temperatures in the 60°s. It’ll be damp by Colorado standards. Wind will be brisk at game time, blowing in from right-field at 11 MPH, but will calm as the temperature falls. RoOt will have the TV broadcast as usual, with KOA 850 am handling radio for the gringos. Spanish radio is 1150 KNRV.

This is for sure Chacin’s Shot at Redemption! Jeem, you rock – thanks for doing the pre-game…i’ve been up about all night, so not sure i’ll make the whole game…go rox!
All you EY Jr haters. Would u say his at bats are worse than fowler or blackmons? I don’t think so.
DJ is winning himself a starting 2nd base job today
Nobody’s ABs are worse than Fowlers
I’m not an EYj hater. In fact I’m pulling for him. But no, his ABs are not as good. Nor is his defense. EYjs best role is pinch runner and occassional starter.
And Pacheco is earning the everyday 1st base position!
Outman was ready to go left on left against Kubel. Left Chacin in and he gives up for more runs as a result
Fowler and blackmon are sure a dangerous duo! Cargo looks blind today
Chacin is earning himself more of my hate.
I thought Todd won the game on that line drive! Fox want to lose this one I’m afraid
Such a tough game tonight. Crossing fingers Betty is ok.
Test
C’mon Baby Bull
Rox Walk-off!
Big win! Charlie had a rough game! DJ won a starting job tonight. Two guys heading in opposite direction after 1 game. Such a fickle game
The D almost let us down tonight. Pacheco made a few really good plays than misses an easy one. Blackmon was much too nonchalant on that dropped fly. I was hoping he was going to play his way on to the team and stay up when Cuddeyer comes back on Friday (hopefully) but doesn’t look that way. EY may still stay as the fourth outfielder because of his speed. Not sure what Weiss was thinking when he didn’t bring Outman… Read more »
I am not an EY hater either, I always pull for the Rox and Rox players to succeed. But if you aren’t producing then it’s easy to look at the reasons why. EY consistently batting leadoff with an OBP of .300 and striking out all the time(it seems), something needs to change. Dex’s AB’s right now are pathetic. He isn’t even giving himself a chance to succeed. Swinging early and often and swinging at pitchers pitches. Case in point, his… Read more »
I was always taught from a very young age that when the game is tied or you’re trailing by a couple runs late in the game that you take until you get strike one. Now if you’re someone like Tulo or Cargo then go ahead and swing away if you get a pitch you can handle. Everyone else needs to be patient and try to work the count in their favor. Dexter seems to think that since he had one… Read more »
I LOVE Dex…but it frustrates me that (in my opinion) he could be a a good hitter…just not a POWER hitter. If he can just take what the pitchers give him, hit for singles, just GET ON BASE, he can be very effective.
Great walk off last night. Can’t wait to vote 10 stars for this game. I thought we were done (as I was yelling “WW PULL HIM NOW!! when Chacin had 2 guys on base).
I’m glad I checked in on the game around the 6th inning, first for the agony of blowing a 4-run lead in a particularly frustrating way, then for the thrill of the walk off. Good comments all around — Pooter, I agree that DJ has won the 2B job. Right now it’s mostly about defense, and the guy is fantastic with the glove. He doesn’t have to hit a whole lot to outperform Rutledge, but his hitting so far is… Read more »
I was glad to hear the crowd applauding Chacin as he walked off – appreciating what a great job he had done BEFORE he fell apart.
Good comments all around. Especially on my man Dex. Use your tools! Figure out how to curb the streakiness! 🙂
Oh, and nice LINE DRIVE, Wilin…love when he hits as well as mashes 🙂
Crazy lineup today…. Fowler hitting cleanup! Guess they see him the same way he views himself, as a power hitter. I love the combo of Dex and Jr. Wish they would use their speed and aggressiveness more this year but I hope they don’t give up on it. I would try hitting Dex leadoff and Jr. second, NOT CLEANUP!
I predict a bunt base hit from Jr. today!!
Are you kidding???? Dex batting cleanup? Walt needs to go!
No doubt in my mind now that Dex’s struggles will continue. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but overall his struggles will continue. Biggest reason for his struggles imo are because he thinks he is a power hitter, now batting him cleanup is only going to fuel that fire. EY batting leadoff makes perfect sense too, I mean he is doing a tremendous job of getting on base and creating havoc. Tulo once again is being given a day, off… Read more »
In some ways the Rox caught a break. The ump was calling balls outside and off the plate strikes. Looked like he may have also been calling knee high strikes balls. From my vantage point I think I understand why Parra got upset. Very possible that Gregorius also suffered the same call. And of course if you listen to the DBacks, the 4th run for the Rockies was a bad call. I’m just glad the Rockies pulled it off in… Read more »
