The Rockies will take on the Arizona Diamondbacks today at 1:10 for their first game of spring. The lineup is full of starters with a notable absences in Helton, who Weiss has mentioned will be taking several games off so as not to push it too much too soon. Helton hasn’t played since his late season surgery.
Another player that hasn’t seen time on the field with his teammates, since undergoing surgery, is Tulo. Unlike Helton, Tulo is in the lineup for today’s first game of spring.
Here is at least the first inning lineup that Weiss has put together for his managerial debut:
CF Dexter Fowler
2B Josh Rutledge
LF Carlos Gonzalez
SS Troy Tulowitzki
1B Michael Cuddyer
C Wilin Rosario
RF Tyler Colvin
DH Jordan Pacheco
3B Chris Nelson
The game wont be televised, but is on the MLB At Bat 2013 app as well as KOA.
I can’t tell you how great it is to put a lineup on here! I know we have a MAJOR hill to go up, but BASEBALL IS BACK!!!
Good to see Tulo and Cargo on the opening day of spring – let’s hope they don’t go all out for the first pop-up and take out Nelson at 3rd…
3 pitch strike out for Dex
Line drive single for josh
Thanks for the updates! This will probably be the first year since 08 that I haven’t made a trip to ST. Just too busy.
FYI – I’ve seen the names of Niemann and Capuano surface today in trade rumors with the ROX. To me, Niemann is intriguing.
Yeah, I saw that as well. Glad to see the stove isn’t completely cold.
Both nelly and Dex get singles. Rox up 2-1 on errors by D-Backs.
Pomeranz not doing well. Everyone hitting him.
Was he giving up hits, or walks? In my mind, the metric to measure good vs. bad with a pitcher in ST is throwing strikes.
he was hit a lot, but all ground balls that i can remember…some tough swings that weren’t bad pitches, just lucky hits…
wow, Tim Wheeler just CRUSHED a home run…
Kent Matthes hits a HR..
We’re contenders! Well, maybe not, but nice start. Even from the box score it didn’t look like Pom got beat up. And the T Wheeler HR is a great sign. Sure, a 6th inning/1st game of spring HR, but he showed so little power last year after his hand injury that this has to be encouraging. Friedrich mentioned in the Niemann trade speculation. Why on earth would a team like the Rockies give up a first-round draft pick who showed… Read more »
Obviously not the forum to discuss the Rays but calling Niemann a “poor man’s Jason Hammel” is a bit of a stretch. There was no miscalculation to it. It was as much the manager/player relationship as anything. Hammel was gone for a reason and it was deliberate. While most of the talking heads agree that Niemann would be a big upgrade for the Rockies I happen to agree with the point you are trying to make. Niemann is 29 and… Read more »
Ian Stewart out 10-14 days with a strained quadriceps. I’m shocked!
Most of the time, it takes years to fairly judge a trade. But have to say Colvin and LeMaheau for Stewart just seems like a steal.
Agbayani, don’t you know DoD knows more about baseball than anybody else. Just ask him. Niemann, or Capuano for that matter, could be this year’s Jeremy Guthrie. Friedrich showed some great potential last year but you got to remember last year DoD had about 10 starters in spring training and none of them were any good.
Didn’t hear today’s game. Anybody have any thoughts?
I saw that the Yankees are looking for a right handed hitting outfielder because of the injury to Granderson. Maybe we can trade Cuddyer to them. Do they have a decent “extra” starting pitcher that would be a good return for Cuddy?
How about Phil Hughes?
You don’t want Phil Hughes. He has a bulging disc in his back.

Also I believe I’m correct in saying he had the single highest fly ball rate of any SP last year. Just say “no.”
I think the EY Jr. // dex combo could be deadly for the Rox. EYJ either needs to be 2nd base or left field with cargo in right and Cuddy at first
Pooter what took so long to get the EYjr. bandwagon started? Three games into ST before a EY[pooter]sighting.Good time too remind all here that before EY got hurt last August he was helping make the ROX respectible and somewhat competitive. The only month with a respectible record last year was when he was playing regularly and was on fire!Unfortunately,he is still a man w/o a country,so to speak,as there is no position where he is the best player or option to… Read more »
Renck did a really good radio interview this afternoon. (Sorry, flipping stations while driving and I can’t remember which one had it.) A rare bit of honesty about where we stand. On Tulo: Renck suggests that Tulo probably thought he’d be traded this winter. He then says that while Tulo is sticking around for now, he’s now getting to the point in his career (not contract) were Matt Holliday was in 2008. Renck said Holliday’s decision not to sign a… Read more »
The “guts” will have to come from Dickie Boy to finally pull the plug on the DOD experience and bring in a new management team. Frankly, I don’t see that happenning any time in the near future. Sadly, the only way I see that happenning is we have another season resembling last season and Coors Field is a morgue by the start of Broncos camp.
I have to disagree with the assessment of requiring stud pitchers in order for the club to be a winning tradition here in Colorado. Yes, pitching (or defense in other sports) is a requirement for championship contention if we go by the textbook. But this does not work here in Colorado. We have to stop being obsessed with lack of pitching here. The Rox strategy has evolved over their history. As of today, theory is to have five #5 starting… Read more »
My work blocked this website for some damn reason! That is when i post most often. I am getting very excited for the rox!!!
Here is my lineup
Ey Jr. 2b
Fowler. Cf
Cargo. Lf
Tulo. Ss
Baby bull. C
Cuddyer. Rf
Helton. 1b
Pacheco. 3b
That is a winner my friends!!
really? oh man, that sucks…i can help you find a “way around” the server at your work maybe 😉
oh, and i love this lineup…weird seeing Helton so far down the list, but that is where he belongs..or maybe 8th to flip the lineup…
I’m not sure why Pacheco has been DH’ing in the spring. Everyone knows he is a stud with the bat. Isn’t it defense he needs to work on?
