Listening to the game as I post this and just heard Jordan Pacheco drill a shot for an RBI double. Had a slight moment of double-take at hearing Pacheco RBI, but the Rockies still sitting at zero runs before it his me – oh yeah, Jordan moved on a while ago…too bad, dig that kid.
This is the first game of spring training for the Rockies and while these games “mean nothing”, it is nice to hear Lyles and Gray out there pitching scoreless innings, while hearing each of the three hit batters so far and Flande going up in flames keeps the excitement down to a minimum. Why Flande is still on the mound in a Colorado uniform is beyond me.
So, thoughts on the first game?
Never understood why big name guys don’t want to be out there on the first day. I know the team doesn’t want them to get hurt or tired or whatever, but it was so fun when SaltyStick first opened having the field full of our All-Star guys. Sure, first pitch pop-up just about took out Tulo, Cargo and Stewart with one swing of the bat, but having the first game of spring televised was the best.
Pretty uninspiring. Realize this is first game of many but we were surprised Cargo and Tulo sat out.
Not surprising, CarGo and Tulo aren’t expected to play for a couple of weeks.
Join Gray struck out Goldy to end the inning on 97 mpH pitch.
Rosario was slick at 1B nearly turning a double play on a chopper and made some picks on low throws.
i know that is the M.O. of teams – to keep their big guys out of it until the middle of the month – they already earned a spot, so no need to have them on the field…but personally if i was a big MLB guy i’d be out there first day with everyone else cause this is the greatest game ever and i’d have more of a Cuddy attitude about it all…happy every day to just be on the… Read more »
Gotta disagree that it is prima donna behavior with our two big guys. I bet they were in the dugout chomping at the bit. (And yes, as you said, it’s a coaches’ decision too, making the discussion moot.) Reduce the chance of them breaking themselves by starting later, fine with me.
After what happened to Hunter Pence yesterday i’m glad they sat out as well…
Angels first game of the season: Pujols and Trout out there playing from the very beginning. They are out there again today. Maybe injury would be less if our guys were out there from the first day…who knows…i know Tulo is actually still sort of rehabbing on a different field. Where’s CarGo?
Jon Gray 97 MPH in first ST game. Nice.
I didn’t see it (hey, nobody told me it was televised! and I don’t see a replay on the ROOT guide), but I’d say 3 things that matter all looked promising from what I’ve read:
1. Rosario will be fine at 1B. Bring on the platoon.
2. Lyons was apparently pretty sharp in his 2 innings.
3. Gray once again looks like he could be a future ace.
The rest? Well, Charlie Culberson went 0-2, etc.
It wasn’t televised…i listened to it on the MLB At Bat app…
“Rosario Almost Starts a Double Play While Playing First Base”…now there’s one must read headline for you. Geez!
ha! so true Bob…if that is in the “good” column for Wilin then we are really scraping bottom…
Jhoulys Chacin 86-88 fastballs today; breaking stuff good but missed location in 2nd inning according to a scout via Twitter. Unless he is working on strengthening his shoulder as ST continues, he’s not gonna make it unless he is suddenly Greg Maddox in terms of precision. “very easy inning for Eddie Butler. Repeats his nice, clean delivery very well pitch to pitch. Lots of sink on his pitches” – scout Bernie Pleskoff via Twitter. If the real games started now,… Read more »
Holy smokes! Hunter Pence is hit by a pitch and suffers a broken arm. We’ve made it through a week with no major injuries. Could PAT really be starting already?
Hold your horses there Brother Bob – JDLR scratched from tomorrow’s start. Groin tightness. (There’s a joke in there – but I’ll leave it alone).
All your fault Bob in WV, all your fault, all your fault. PAT going out of whack.
Damn it Bob! You never talk to a guy throwing a no hitter after the 5th inning and never talk openly about PAT before July 4th.
I just knew I’d probably be jinxing things when I wrote that. No more PAT talk…ever.
