Spring training plans

I thought I’d let you guys know that we’re going to be in SRF @ TS from March 3rd to March 10th for ST 2013. I’d like to know who else is coming or planning to come. We can use the Tavern Grille (is that the right place Ed the Ump?) as our base of RWO gatherings when not at the ball games.

Good scheduling, Jared. No Rockies-Padres games while you are in AZ. Marital bliss!

RMH… I will not be coming for the entire month this year, but I have 2 tickets for all the games at SRF if you are interested. It looks like I might arrive on March 9 or 10, so tix for the previous week are available if you’d like to purchase them. I believe you have my email, but if not just text me and I will get my email address to you and we can discuss without bugging Jared’s… Read more »

The schedule is on the Rockies website. Just look at the pull-down under schedules and click on the Spring Training Schedule link.

All arbitration eligibles tendered contracts. Fowler? Obvious. Colvin? No brainer. But Jonathan Herrera? Didn’t see that one coming at all. We have LeMahieu, Rutledge, Nelson, Tulo, Pacheco. Some guy named Charlie Culberson. Arenado. That new Wheeler. All but Tulo are minimum salary guys. This is the same club that wouldn’t risk paying less to Josh Roenicke on the off chance that some Rob Scahill will outcompete him. Yet they’re willing to keep Jonny Sparkplug around for … for what reason?… Read more »

Noticed Braves non tendered Jair Jurgens who everyone here seemed hot for last winter.Woukd he still be worth looking at after bad year. They also NT’d Moylan.

Gary, on Jurrjens: sure looks to me (and the Braves obviously) that he’s done. He’s lost 4 mph on his fastball since emerging as a really good young pitcher, and it’s pretty obviously linked to serious shoulder problems. I’m guessing Ubaldo is going through the same thing, and although it hasn’t been directly linked to an injury I fear that Chacin is on the same path. Too bad, but not worth taking a flyer on him. Moylan is 34 and… Read more »

Agreed Ag. We already have plenty of #5 starters. No need to over pay for another one. Renck is still hot on giving the national talking heads plenty of info although they seem to now disagree with him on Fowler. Turned on a dime. One minute many of them were soucing him saying Fowler would be the next outfielder to be moved after BJ. Now the asking price is too high. Same for Cuddyer. Now they are sourcing him for… Read more »

Arizona is willing to trade Justin Upton for a top tier starting pitcher or an impact shortstop. (my source of info form ESPN article on who are mostly likely to be traded). Would you do this? Trade Tulo to Arizona for Justin Upton straight up. My thinking is that the OF would be the best in the majors by far (unless Dex regress). Let Josh Rutledge keep playing shortstop (smallish sample but he could be the next Tulo but not… Read more »

I suspect that Herrera was tendered a contract mainly to keep from upsetting Carlos Gonzalez. They are friends from their childhood in Venezuela.

You can talk all you want about trading or not trading position players. It’s just a waste of time. It all comes down to pitching. You can go as far as your pitching will take you. Forget about the declining pitchers with ailing arms and a left hander in the bull pen. If you have the cash or depth to trade, you must rigerously persue a high end young pitcher. Easier said than done I guess, but if you do… Read more »

Some chatter about Dex for Homer Bailey (Reds) or Mike Minor (Braves). I don’t know the contract situation of Bailey, and I realize there’s a real premium cost for SP, but that seems like a deal where the Reds might need to throw in another player. Minor on the other hand is young, so I’m guessing still under club control for awhile. He’s also a real talent. Also read somewhere the the Padres and Indians discussed Ubaldo. My have the… Read more »

Here’s the problem with that. Rosenthal “floated” the idea. Did a good job of inciting the Red’s fans. Not many of them onboard with that thought. Most of the Red’s fans say Leake and possibly Stubbs, but not Bailey. I love this. He likes Rosenthal as much as I do. “No…no…and NO on the trade Bailey idea…every year Rosenthal throws crap at a wall hoping something sticks…what an idiot…” Got to love this one too: “If they’d do a Fowler/Drew… Read more »

Ok who just saw Geivett on MLBtv? If so, did ya believe him? While I do believe “Dexter Fowler is a very popular guy right now” I’m not sure I believe “we are not looking to move anyone and are happy with our guys”. I was surprised with the comments on the Rockies should move Tulo. I was also glad to see I’m not the only one with “healthy Tulo” concern. I wish he was open minded to giving 3rd… Read more »

I don’t pretend to have any expertise, but it seems to me taking a flyer on a pitcher who may or may not work out or “eat innings” or be a prospect would be a mistake for Fowler. He’s coming into his own, and yes, we’ve seen his upside, but that upside is a great fit for Coors. I just don’t see these guys in charge making a good trade. The best personnel decision we’ve received recently is that we… Read more »

Hey guys, Back to Spring Training talk—- I’m hoping to go to a couple games this year as I only work 15 mins away from SRF. Also, my wife and I have our annual “ditch work day” on the first day that the entire club works out and we head over to watch. Although it usually starts later than advertised, its a lot of fun as you can get up close to the players and get some great photos (providing… Read more »
