sorry about the late lineup post – forgot game was so early…
Chacin just made the biggest blunder…according to the Braves announcers, “that is something i’ve never seen in the big leagues in my life”…he had a runner at third and Rosario threw him the ball back after a pitch and he missed it and it rolled past the mound allowing the runner to score…
damn…
In these 1 run games I think the Rockies really miss the speed and spark of EYJ.
Sounds like ONCE AGAIN CARGO takes a big ol swing and a miss at his kryptonite. Time to mature at the plate, Cargo.
As I’ve posted in the past, Cargo has gone about his business in a lackaidasical and uninspired fashion the second half of this season- very disappointing. We’re see what happens next season, but if things continue like this, we have to question how much we really want to invest in him going forward.
Rox don’t give up an earned run the past three games but yet manage to lose 2 of 3. Go figure.
Prog, Cisco — 2nd day in a row in which CarGo had the opportunity we were waiting for. 2nd day in a row he came up empty. Yesterday all he had to do was put the ball in play (runner at 3B, one out) and it would’ve been extra innings. A base hit and it would’ve been a win. He struck out. Yeah, it’s against Kimbrel, one of the best. So our best can’t beat their best. I think we’ve… Read more »
Agbayani, I have also wondered about the possiblity of trading CarGo. It would be controversial, but the team could get a lot for him, and outfield is one of the strongest positions in our system. In addition to the guys you mentioned, we have Wheeler, Dickerson and Parker coming down the pike.
I’m still at a loss why the Rockies feel the need to extend players with multiple years still on the current contract and really a limited amount of data to judge by. Signing Cargo based on the 2009 playoffs and 2010 season you paid him for his highest potential. Not that he’s a slouch, but where’s the incentive to improve? Tulowitzki gets a contract extension every other year despite being unable to stay healthy. The Rockies overpay guys like Cuddyer… Read more »
Matt Holliday was going to leave as free agent no matter what the Rox offered him. That was obvious to everyone, which is why he was traded.
It was obvious he wasn’t going to take a home town discount to stay, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have signed a fair market contract to stay.
It’s stupid that the Rockies will only sign “bargain” contracts for top tier players but they are willing to overpay for Cuddyer types or worse…Jose Lopez and Ty Wiggington.
The extensions are a way for the club to gain cost certainty and for the player to reduce risk. They make a lot of sense in the abstract, and they’ve worked well for the Rockies … in general … so far. Good extension – (buying out arbitration and free agent years): Cargo. Locked up through 2017, earning (as he would in arbitration) sub-market salaries for the next couple years, then ballooning up to 16,17, and 20 million in the last… Read more »
I have a little bit of inside info on the Matt Holliday deal and from what I know he agreed to extend with the Rox for a specific amount, handshake and all of that, and then his agent stepped in and said “hell no” – they wanted to try the free market (bet you can’t guess who said that)…so he was traded. He wanted to stay, liked the team and was willing to give a little “home town discount”, but… Read more »
