While the Nationals might not have as good of a record as the Rangers, their team ERA is the best in the big’s at 2.95. The Rockies, on the other hand, are sportin’ a historically bad ERA at 5.33, placing them dead last in the MLB.
While some may say that Coors is the “great inflationator” of ERA’s, it has seen it’s share of pitching clinics within its walls this season, mostly from the dugout to the west of home plate.
As the Rockies Luck of ’12 continues, they will line up perfectly with the Nationals top four (Strasburg, 2.46; Gonzalez, 2.55; Zimmermann, 2.89; Jackson, 2.91).
Compare that with the Rockies next only four: Francis (8.56), Friedrich (5.65), Outman (8.64) and White (6.45).
Tonight the great Stephen Strasburg will take the mound looking for his seventh straight win as he sports a 9-1 record, not logging a loss since May 15th.
The other half of the Nationals equitation comes from their exciting and oft reported about Bryce Harper.
Harper, the first overall pick of the 2010 MLB draft, is only 19 but plays years beyond his age. Sure, many might not think he is as big of a deal than Mike Trout, but you can’t deny he is an exciting part of the game and he gives 110% every time he dons the cleats and eye black.
Not to mention his “clown question” interview hype off field.
For those tired of waiting for the next big blowup from our team, the next four games should at least give us a great example of a team that is not only exciting, but doing something right with their pitching staff.
Maybe the Rockies can take notes.

Full disclosure: I am a big Bryce Harper fan and have followed him from High School…he is a friend of a friend and I think he is excellent for baseball and will have a huge impact for years and years to come…don’t let the hype scare you off enjoying this kid play – he is the real deal…Mike Trout is also legit, but Harper (in my mind) will be better in the long run… I tried to get to Coors… Read more »
The skill and theory of riding horses aside, you were off playing preacher or officiant or whatever when Mr Trout visited, and he was something to see. Hope Harper measures-up; hate to see it at our expense. Nice call-out on the ERAs. When I was sitting-in every time I wrote-up a pregame I got exposed to the typical minimum 2.oo ERA differential between ours and theirs. Makes you feel like you’re already 2 or 3 runs behind before the game’s… Read more »
Yeah, i read your post games and saw some of the display and Trout was excellent…the guy owned us…and i think he is all they are saying, but my money (horses and players) is on Mr. Harper – mostly because I feel a “connection” to him, being only 1 generation removed from a kid that played with him in Vegas…
Poor road showing? I guess my expectation was really low. 3-6 was better than I expected. :>)
if it smells like trout get out!
Trout or Harper. We might not know who is best for 10 to 15 years.
Rockies announcers were tight tonight. George said it was “muggy” today. I guess it was that 5% relative humidity.
