I think that Rockies management are going to voice the opinion that this season was a success because they will have improved from last year. I’m not gong to be happy. If you look at how good the Rockies played when DLR, Chacin, Chatwood and to some extent Nicasio pitched and how poorly they plated when others started you gotta wonder if they had gone after a solid pitcher or pitchers maybe they would still be in the race. Matt… Read more »

Nothing says success like a party deck and a remodeled press box.

I don’t recall Tulo hitting into that many gidp, so I looked. Found he had hit into five all year. Must be a case of too familiar with the subject.

i just turned it on in time to see Rosario drive in a run so can’t comment on that. But talking about Greg Reynolds, he’s suppose to start against the Rocks this weekend.

I didn’t know Greg Reynolds was even in baseball anymore. Wow, Cincy must be hurting. By the way, what’s with the Giants and the fat guys? First Sandoval, now half of their bullpen is huge. They pick up Pettit to start … didn’t he used to be kind of skinny on the Dbacks? … and he gains about 100 lbs. I know they’ve got good restaurants in SF, but this is getting ridiculous.

So the Giants get a guy on third and our old friend Marco Scutaro manages a long fly ball and gets the run in. Our ALL STAR SS hits a mild blooper to CF and NADA, guy stays on third. How often have we had someone on third this year and that’s where the guy stays?

That’s right … Tulo blows it again, Scutaro kills us again …

I just noticed that in the last few weeks the Rockies signed Anthony Bryant, Alex San Juan and David Bergin. I never heard of any of them. Anybody know anything about these guys?

Maybe it’s not so much dps but empty outs Tulo seems like the king of them.

What a pathetic 9th, the AAAA players showing their mettle and fight. And Petit, making his FIRST start of the year, of course, can hopelessly confuse the mighty Rockies.

Interesting article by Buster Olney of ESPN on the handling of young pitchers and pitch and inning counts:
http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/buster-olney/post/_/id/3041

Once again it appears that our Rox “Brain Trust” may have this wrong. What happens if in the next few years (heavens forbid), one of the Rox prized pitching prospects like Gray, Butler, etc. goes down needing TJ surgery, will they than go to plan B and scrap the 100-pitch limit?

Cisco, looks like one of those “insider” articles you have to subscribe for. But I’ll agree with what I think is Olney’s point since I’ve seen a few other writers say it: pitcher injuries are a crapshoot. GMs spend way too much time trying to minimize serious pitcher injuries by controlling workload based on very little evidence that any of this has any effect. If Matt Harvey were a Rockie I’m guessing (1) he’d still have blown out his elbow… Read more »

Sorry about that folks, I forgot the Olney article was an insider article. Ag, You hit the nail on the head with your assessment of the article. Here are a few excerpts from the article: “the Mets can point to as they have done everything right in their handling of Matt Harvey, according to current conventional wisdom in baseball, just as the Nationals did with Stephen Strasburg. But Harvey apparently blew out his elbow, just as Strasburg did. And as… Read more »

Cisco, thanks for the summary for us non-insiders. Interesting that even the traditionalists like Olney are moving away from the micromanaging theory of young pitchers. That’s why I think even the Rockies won’t worry about holding Gray back. If he stays healthy (always a big if for the reasons we just talked about) I think we see him in a Rockies uniform in June. The guy is that good.

I saw a similar article on SI.com (I think it was there) earlier this week. Really you never know.

And it’s not just baseball. Lots of people thought that the reason Montae Ball “fell” to the Broncos in the 2nd round was because he was used too much at Wisconsin. Did the Broncos get a steal or did they overpay? Who knows.

I can’t believe you jumped on their opinion bandwagon. Pitching at high altitude requires totally different book on pitching. For the umpteenth time, I have mentioned the research that was done which proved that pitching at altitude will break you down faster than any other city in baseball. The 75 pitch limit didn’t work because of bullpen overwork. So we are readjusting to see if 100 works. The same apply to catchers. They will have short time of effectiveness if… Read more »
