Gopherg has been recalled to replace Chad Qualls who has gone on the DL due to his illness. Before you go running for the exits, isn’t Gopherg the lesser evil of Jason Motte and Jake McGee?
Colorado has won the first two games of the four-game set vs. Atlanta and their best two starters. Chad Bettis and Jon Gray countered with excellent quality starts. They won largely due to the long balls by CarGo on Thursday and NoDo/Tulo2.7 on Friday night. They still have not been able to put together some small ball at home when the long balls are AWOL.
Tonight Tyler Anderson toes the rubber in game three against the Braves. Anderson and Jon Gray are the two most reliable and consistent starters to give them quality start. Gray has been growing exponentially as a top of rotation pitcher. If Jeff Hoffman can grow as much as Jon Gray then Colorado has next year to look forward to with Gray, Anderson, and Hoffman in the top three. Chad Bettis has been steady at least on sabermetrics paper, but feels like a hit and miss during on the field performance.
Time for me to sit down, relax, and drink some Coors Banquet out of a German stein. 🙂
Oh man, 4th HR by Story since I bought his jersey. Woo-hoo If you need proof I have the picture on my FB page the night I bought the Story jersey.
I hear German Marquez have another great outing today.
I live in GVR about 15 linear miles from Coors. Not a rain drop here.
RMH, I told you you’re the new Rockies good luck charm … and since Roxnsox is dying for some love for the current (not future) Rockies: I really have only good things to say about Tyler Anderson. Hasn’t had a bad start yet. He really is Jeff Francis 2.0, a guy I loved to watch pitch. So many good things going on this year that I don’t want us to lose sight of, starting with: 1. Trevor Story. TuLo WhoLo?… Read more »
Excellent, Ag! 🙂
I think Wolters just made Hundley expendable. Question is before trade deadline or we have to wait until next year?
I’ll preface this by saying I’m in full on smart ass mode:
Hundley has made himself expendable. I quite like the idea of a Tom Murphy/Tony Wolters C platoon.
German Marquez was filthy ridiculous last night. David Dahl continues to rake.
Aroldis Chapman likely traded today. Destination? Cubs, Giants, or Nats.
Keep wearing that Story jersey Brotha! He’s been the anchor to my Fantasy team this year.
Gopherg just hung a slider that got ripped, but right at Story. He always reminds me of the difference between succeeding in the minors vs. in the big leagues — he hangs a lot of breaking pitches, but minor league hitter miss most of them ….
Story is so much better than Tulo (now – in 2016) that it’s almost comical.
SO much fun to watch. Wonder if Bridich and the scouts really knew something more about the kid than was even showing in the minors, when he pulled the plug on Tulo….
Love to watch Wolters and hope Hundley is traded very soon. I believe Gopherg is a homegrown product which accounts for the multitude of opportunities he’s been given. Anyone know if he has better success on the road where his breaking pitches might actually break? Looks like a classic Rox pitcher that will stink it up with us (no trade value) and suddenly blossom with a new team.
Doc, I looked, and Gopherg has actually been BETTER at Coors in his career than on the road. This doesn’t make a lot of sense, so I can think of only 2 explanations: (1) small sample size quirk (he’s only thrown 70 + MLB innings); (2) he uses his fastball more and breaking ball less at Coors, which (given his propensity to hang breaking balls) makes him a better pitcher. Probably a little of both.
Chatwood is terrible. No command. None. Zip.
I have a new nickname for Trevor Story. Thunderstory. He is at or near the top of the league in XBHs. Not many cheap hits. He carries a lot of thunder in his bat.
Just keep wearing that jersey Brotha!
NL extra base hits as of Story’s 27th home run.
1. Nolan Arenado – 53 extra base hits
2. Trevor Story – 52 extra base hits
What’s this? A 4-game sweep underway? And RMH, I like the nickname, or at least any nickname since Story has clearly earned it. Now Walt, get Chatty outta there and let some Gonzalez Germen mop up …
Yanks are going to get Schwarber from Cubs for Chapman. Think about it……..Yanks got Chapman from Reds for essentially nothing. He serves his suspension. Has a great 3 months. Yanks flip it for a great young, cost controlled hitter for years to come (and can DH in the AL). Brilliant Front Office management. This has nothing to do with the Yanks being rich. This is a move a small market Club could pull off if they had the cajones.
There are more reliable reports (it’s the Internet – so take everything with a grain of salt) that it’s Gleyber Torres the Yanks are after. Torres is a top 50 Prospect, SS, high A ball. One could argue more valuable than Schwarber because he plays a premium position. But…..also obviously farther away from the Majors. Also….some talk that Cubs are trying to extend Chapman. This part makes sense to me. It makes giving up a Schwarber or Torres more palatable.
Dahl up tomorrow.
Might need to buy another jersey RMH.
Does this mean a Blackmon or Cargo move is imminent?
Nah, don’t need a new jersey. Thunderstory will carry the team on his back. A side effect – NoDo will be even better! And Dahl extends the lineup all the way down to the pitcher (replacing a black hole in Raburn/Barnes in the six hole). Reynolds is the perfect guy to bat behind Dahl! I’m plenty fired up for the trip to Baltimore/NY as long as the rotation continue to do their thing.

It s been an interesting first full season in the majors for Maikel Franco. While it seems he s slumped much of the year, swinging out of his shoes and getting himself out with regularity, here we are in the middle of August and he has 22 home runs.
