Tyler Chatwood Makes His Case

Tyler Chatwood take the mound this afternoon against the Cubs, hoping he can pitch anywhere close to how well Moyer pitched last night.  Hernandez is behind the dish, bruised from getting hit last night, but no worse for the wear.  Nolan Arenado, it was announced by the team, will be sent down to the Minors until the team feels he is ready, despite the following tweet from Jon Heyman:

NL scout says he thinks arenado is ready on day he is demoted. adds, “when he comes up, he’s here to stay.”

The line-up for today’s game is as follows:

Fowler, CF
Herrera, SS
Gonzalez, LF
Giambi, 1B
Cuddyer, RF
Nelson, 2B
Hernandez, C
Blake, 3B
Colvin, DH

Ian is hitting.290+ this spring, that ain’t bad. And Ian’s gone from the team,no need to keep bashing him. I for one am hoping he gets his game together and becomes an all star.

I think Nolan’s “demotion” (I feel its not even fair to call it that) has more to do with the Rockies needing to give Chris Nelson his final chance and the organization’s faith in Pacheco to handle the position.

Blake better go on an amazing hot streak to even sniff a spot.

Anyone know if the single by Dex here in the 2nd inning was a bunt single? If so I am very encouraged by the game calling!!!

It was an infield hit to the right side, Prog.

Thanks! Love it. With runners on and less than 2 outs he shot be bunting a lot more. He’s too valuable to bench when he’s not hitting so must find these opportunities to get on base/move runners.

So far, I think that Moyer is the leader for the fifth starter position. Chatwood and Moscoso haven’t helped themselves in their most recent starts. .

I don’t think anyone other than pitchers have bunted,,,just haven’t seen it in 2 weeks….

Chatwood and Moscoso haven’t helped themselves with what Moyer did yesterday.Nolen is just to keep getting day to day experience…for now ..going to be an interesting last few weeks.

With all the pitching depth, and its youthfulness,I don’t see anyway Moyer doesn’t get fifth spot.In June, when hitters have caught up and start smacking him around we should have DLR in the wings and more evaluation of the young arms.Plus if Jamey makes it,it will mean I’m only 15 years past my prime!LOL.Plus didn’t Nicklaus win his last Masters when he was 49?

RMH, were you surprised? After you pegged Jose Lopez starting last season over Herrera I wasn’t going to second guess you on this one. It will be interesting to see who does start at third.

Blake will start at third, you guys put way too much credence in Spring Traing small sample size statistics!

You’re putting entirely too little on 1) injury 2) need to play or cut Nelson 3) development of Pacheco 4) locking in guaranteed contract. Why would the Rockies do any of those 4 things for someone hitting .100? If the contract was guaranteed, maybe I see him starting regardless of his stats, for example if Giambi was struggling in camp he’d still make it on the team. If Blake makes this team I’ll be shocked and frankly disappointed for what… Read more »

Prog I am with you the young players deserve their chance, however we have seen this scenario play out many times before. And the following facts are still true. 1. Pacheco only makes the team if the Rockies believe that he can catch twicw a week. With the young starting rotation, I just don’t see the Rockies trusting Pacheco behind the plate and I sure don’t see him starting at third base. 2. Nelson has been in Tracy’s perpetual dog… Read more »

RMH just posted most of my thoughts in another thread so ‘ll try to keep my response short. I just can’t see the Rockies, notorious cheapskates, giving a guaranteed contract to a player who is apparently not yet recovered from injury and is playing so poorly. I can see the Rockies trading 1 or 2 of Nelson or Herrera or EYJ. So maybe Blake makes the team if that happens. Otherwise, I’d say history is behind the Rockies going with… Read more »

My current guesses on the roster: Guthrie, Chacin, Pomeranz and Nicasio, with Moyer for the fifth spot Betancourt, Brothers, Belisle, Reynolds, Roenicke, Outman, and either Moscoso or Rogers as the long reliever/spot starter Helton, Giambi, Scutaro, Tulo, Nelson, Herrera, CarGo, Dexter, Cuddyer, EY (I wouldn’t have said that last year) and either Blackmon or Colvin Hernandez and Nieves. It breaks my heart not to include Pacheco, but he has options, and Young and Nelson don’t, and Herrera can back up… Read more »

What trade possibilities? Almost all here agree that these guys are marginal players to maybe make our roster.FYI we are a lousy 4th place team that is scrambling to put a competitive team together with mid-market money. Now if you are talking about a trade for the ever popular “player to be named later”,or cash considerations than sure some or all of EY2,Nelson,Herrera,et.al could be traded.Only way they are involved in a significant trade is if a pitcher or two are… Read more »
