The Colorado Rockies face-off against the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at Coors Field, 6:40 pm. Daniel Hudson, 16-12, 3.49 in 2011, goes for Arizona against Colorado’s Juan Nicasio, 2011 marks of 4-4, 4.14. Nicasio takes the hill at Coors for the first time since last August 5, when a line-shot off the bat of Washington’s Ian Desmond blasted him in the temple. Nicasio broke the C1 vertabra in his neck when he fell, requiring bone-fusion surgery. He made his first start April 8 in Houston, punctuating a remarkable nine-month recovery.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy trots-out the following line-up for tonight’s match-up:
2B Marco Scutaro
CF Dexter Fowler
LF Carlos Gonzalez
SS Troy Tulowitzki
1B Todd Helton
RF Michael Cuddyer
C Ramon Hernandez
3B Chris Nelson
RHP Juan Nicasio.
Get Fowler outta there! Put in Colvin
I was hoping I could use a headline with the phrase “Grab Some Pine” in it.
Damn this team can’t catch a break. Solid pitcher like Juan now struggles, not what we need, at all. Already down, well be swinging at junk now all night.
Tough first inning for Nicasio…three walks, 2-run single and 44 pitches. All after first two Dback hitters were retired easily.
Got one back. Not many folks here at the park for a Friday night.
That’s because nothing about this team is exciting
Ramon CRUSHED that ball! Nice to see Dex gaining some traction too.
Both back. Even Steven. Park a little more crowded.
Error by Dex in my opinion. Runner advanced. What’s the deal?
Well this team may yet have some fight in them
When my east coast buddies have asked me what kind of season to expect from the Rox in 2K12, I’ve routinely told them to expect an “old school” pre-humidor type year. Lucky to finish @ 500, but scoring lots of runs and playing in some LONG games. So far, so good with that prediction!
Ol’ man Helton coming through again! Love it.
Nice win overcoming a poor start. Good perseverance tonight. Gratifying win for sure.
Noticed each position player got a knock tonight. If we can distribute the offense across the whole lineup rather than relying on Cargo/Tulo/Todd then we are going to do well. Great game for Hernandez. High five to Cargo and Tulo for getting on base and scoring 2 runs each…they don’t have to be the RBI guys every night.
Also, kudos to the bullpen especially Rogers and Belisle for keeping them in it.
Ty who? Cuddyer, if this team contends for a playoff spot, is a great pickup. Imagine if we had a real 3rd baseman. But Nelson may work if Cuddy continues on 3/4s of his pace.
I’ve been saying all offseason, Nelson works as a 8th hole hitter. The fact that we aren’t stuck with a C in the 8 hole allows the luxury. Of course having a power 3B would be nice, but if Nelson can effectively hit at the 8 hole all year then it gives you a very affordable player who can slide into 2B next year and then you allow Arenado to replace Scutaro next year.
Tonight actually gives me more hope than Wednesday. This team we saw tonight could win 90 and make the playoffs. This was a game the 2011 Rockies lose.
yes I certainly agree. Once we were down 2-0 I thought our offense would press all night. That wasn’t the case, and I am so glad to be wrong there.
Fun game to be at tonight. Helton showed his muscle with his timely hitting. Go Rockies!
Glad I stuck with this one. With the 9th inning vs.SF this team is showing some fight. However the bullpen will be dead/disabled by July 1st if the starters don’t start showing up.Really shows what a pro Moyer is too have gotten us as deep into games as he has, with the errors and his 79mph heater!
