Dan O’Dowd told Troy Renck today that the Rockies have made an offer to a Veteran Starter. It isn’t known who that started is, or what the offer was, only that it isn’t Kevin Millwood. There is still interested in Millwood, Renck reports, if this deal does not go through. Speculation is that it is either Rodrigo Lopez and Jeff Francis, both having been in the Rockies system before, because of their excellent work ethic.
[UPDATE] It looks like the Veteran pitcher would be 49 year old Jamie Moyer, according to the latest information. Moyer didn’t pitch last year because he was rehabing from Tommy John surgery.
I would hope it’s Jeff Francis as he’s a known quantity to the Rox and now two years removed from his injury. And he’s not that old, a good comeback candidate. It would have to be on a minor league contract with invitation since the 40-man roster is full now sans another transaction.
Looks like it is Moyer – wow, didn’t know they were going THAT veteran!!! The funny thing is, last year i remember watching an interview with him on the MLB Network and he was talking about coming back and pitching again and I though, “wow, wonder who would sign him…” I never in a million years thought it would be us!
NNNOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Sadly, 49 year old Jamie Moyer would be one of the top 5 starting pitchers on this team.
With this move, O’Dowd has succeeded in making this team a joke.
Because they are now on the cheap. Sad. I was hoping they might give Millwood a shot at coming back.
Jamie Moyer! What, because Satchel Paige is dead? Maybe they figure he’ll only want a little bit of money added to his Social Security check? Crazy.
I haven’t gone back and looked at Moyer’s stats, but I don’t remember him as an “inning-eating” pitcher. Isn’t that what we’ve, supposedly, been shopping for recently??
Found this somewhat interesting;
from 2000-2010 Jamie Moyer made 61 million…his record during that period was 149-103.
The story says they offered a deal to Moyer. There is still hope errr. a chance that he doesn’t accept.
Twitter is alive and well. According to Troy Renck the Rockies have offered Moyer a minor league deal and they are waiting for his repsonse.
Wow, at 49 (like I am), I think it would be cool to hang out in a MLB uniform. Any takers?
No Prob Konaman, you can go to Fantasy Camp next week 🙂
turning 40 soon. Somehow the Rockies away jersey I own is a bit tighter on me that it was at 30. Must be drying it too long so it shrinks 🙂
Yeah…apparently, it sounds like Jamie Moyer thinks that it would be cool, too.
Mr. Moyer, please reject this offer.
Thanks,
Rockies Fans
Guess Giambino needed a father figure in the dugout.
I don’t know what would cause Moyer to accept this offer. While there is no clear favorites to win the 4th and 5th spot he would have to beat out 10 other guys. Its not going to happen. He would be much better off going somewhere with less competition.
Oh goodie! Another pitcher!
Let’s give up Tulo to sign him!
I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was wondering what all is needed to get setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100% sure. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
