The Rockies will take on Team USA tonight at 7:10 in a tune-up game before the real thing this weekend. Team USA, the WBC team put together from various top-tier and second-shelf US MLB players, will play their first WBC game this Friday against Mexico.
Tulo has stated several times in the past that he would have liked to play for Team USA, but his health issues make it difficult for Team USA to take a chance on him, given that they would have to insure his mammoth salary should he get injured on their watch.
While he won’t be playing for Team USA, he will be playing against them this evening, and he seems excited for the challenge.
It will be cool to see some of the guys I know. It’s always great to play against the best. I definitely wish them luck and hope they do a good job.
Here is the lineup for both sides:

CF Dexter Fowler | 2B Brandon Phillips |

Taking bets on the final score…
Sadly the game isn’t televised, but it is on the radio (or streaming audio)…
Pomeranz is actually starting – they just made the announcement :20 seconds before the first pitch…
Added a new Poll…above or front of site…
Just got home from the Rox-USA game. Ladies and gentlemen, the competition is over at third base. Nolan Arenado had a double early in the game. Later, The USA brought in Greg Kimbrel. He mowed down every one (except Fowler’s seeing eye grounder) until NoDo stepped up to the plate. He hit a laser right at the LF mitt. Later in the bottom of 9th I was on the edge of my seat watching NoDo walking up to the plate… Read more »
RMH, thanks so much for the first person view. Listening to it on the radio is one thing, but having you tell us what you saw is awesome! I really hope he keeps tearing it up so we can have some stability at 3rd. It will be a money lineup with him, rut, tulo (healthy?), dex (hot?), CarGo (zoned in?), etc…man, that will be a powerful lineup if it all comes together…
I sure hope Nolan can stick with the Rockies. It seems as though this franchise has often worn out players in the minors before they even reach the bigs. If Buster Posey was a Rockie, he would probalby just be moving up from CS!
Just a reminder that Fowler, Rosario, and Ruttledge came straight from Tulsa. So the Rox have shown a willingness to bring up prospects without going to CS.
Fair point.
Yep – thanks, good stuff.
I keep waiting for the Blake Street Bullies to show up but they are playing like the Blake Street Follies so far. I was puzzled last night asking myself how in the world did the no name pitchers make the USA all stars? Specifically Jeff Manship and Matt Kenseth. I vaguely remember the names. When I read the game summary, they were the Rox’ own farmhands. So the Rox loaned the USA team a couple of pitchers. Good grief. Except… Read more »
The Lopez / Belisle info is intriguing. Is Lopez good enough to allow the Rox to send Betancourt to the Tigers?
Can’t edit even if signed in. Using iPad. The loaned Rox pitchers were Logan Kensing (was thinking of Kenseth the NASCAR driver) and Nick Schmidt in addition to Manship.
RMH…using my iPad as well to check and see if I/we can send Jared some info and pics during our game on Sunday with Ruby and robba.
See you Sunday morning!
Hey guys, have fun on Sunday. Family is getting out of town this weekend, otherwise I’d join you. See you later in the month Ed!
Go Rockies
ON another note—just turned on the WBC Dominican Vs Venezuela—Chacin on the mound, 4th inning, he’s given up 5 runs and in trouble again. Not sure how many are earned or how they happened.
hmmm…
Ok..that’s what I get for posting and doing research…just realized Chacin was in the game in a relief role….phew!
Interesting that Cargo is playing right field for Venezuela, but is staying in left with the Rox.
Chacin tonight pitching for Venezuela:

Ouch!
Interesting comment during the USA vs Canada game today by Jim Kaat. While speaking about Dustin Molleken, he mentioned that the reason the pitchers that go spend time playing Japanese baseball come back as better pitchers is because they throw more pitches while in Japan instead of fewer pitches like they do/did in MLB.
Are the Rockies making a mistake by limiting the amount of pitches thrown even more than other clubs do?
