What is Rex Brothers Doing Late and Close?

RWOers knew the ball game was over when Rex Brothers trotted to the mound in the eighth inning with a one run lead.  All he has done the whole effing year was give up two or more runs per appearance.  RWOers can’t believe Rox keep trotting Brothers time and time again.  Even Nicasio is doing better for heaven’s sake.  Rox went on to lose the game 5-2 despite playing solid ball other than Brothers’ appearance.  The RWOers need to gather up 25 fans and party in the Rooftop party deck until Brothers makes an appearance then give him the loudest boos in history of the Colorado Rockies.  Heck, bring up Jon Gray to replace Brothers.  What have we got to lose?  Done ranting on behalf of the RWOers and good night.

I was at the game. I also won a $10 bet with a Dbacks fan I was sitting next to…told him that the Rox would lose the lead in the eighth when I saw that Mr Loyalty, WW, insisted on bringing Three Mile Island into the game. He was smiling after Zero got two outs but I put the cash in my pocket thanks to TMI setting up Zero to fail. Except for a couple RWOers who manage to live… Read more »

Ed, brilliant observation that will go down as one of the best sum-ups of a lost season. I knew when Brothers took the mound that we lost. I couldn’t believe WW had such faith in him to bring him into that situation and poor Zero ALMOST bailed WW out of it. Honestly it was for the best that he didn’t. Sadly, if he’d gotten those last two strikes the message of the game would have been, “this team still has… Read more »

JD… you are right on the money, as usual. My prediction going forward…One of two things is going to happen this off-season… Dick and Charlie will “blow the organization up,” finally realizing that their business model, while sound from a financial standpoint, does nothing but foment unrest among the paying customers. Or, they(actually Dick)will continue with the loyalty card they have been playing for the last 8-10 years. Making small, incremental changes that they hope will placate the fan base,… Read more »

Watched up until Rex threw the second ball after he came on, then turned it off. Turned out worse than I had expected. Three straight walks? The guy shouldn’t throw again this season. Ed’s right, the loyalty/redemption thing is WAY overdone in Rockies Land. The other thing to consider is the role of Geivett in these situations. Maybe Brothers has pictures…..

If fans were boycotting games, as in AZ, something would be done. But it appears the cocktail party at Talking Stick has moved to Denver. We are for the first time re-thinking our spring training season tickets and would not buy them if I thought it would send a message. But it won’t! Until there are no fans, I am afraid nothing will be done.

How did Bergman look? Can he be an acceptable #5 starter? Are Lyles and Matzek acceptable #3 and #4 starters, so do we have the nucleus of a decent and inexpensive back end of the starting rotation while we wait for Gray, Butler, Anderson, Chatwood and Winkler to make their way to the starting rotation over the next couple of years? I assume that the team will resign DLR, and not resign Brett Anderson and Chacin, so it will have… Read more »

I thought he looked pretty good.Walked a few but was able to get out of it. Of course, I can’t if AZ is as bad as the Rockies or if Bergman was pitching pretty well.

I felt exactly the same as most everyone else, except Walt, when Brothers came trotting in. Then when it was obvious that Brothers didn’t even have a glimpse of what he needed; Walt let him stew in his own juices. I could see it was really hard on Brothers as he is as aware as we are that he is lost this year. I like him very much as a person and think if he was shut down now totally… Read more »

lwesche, Julie G — I hope the Rockies’ management is listening. The fans have only so much patience. I think everyone’s forgotten how bad it got, even attendance-wise, from 2003-06 (and actually through most of 2007). It isn’t carved in stone that we’ll draw 30,000 a night. Expect some “announced” attendance figures in September of 23,000 where it looks more like 10,000 at best actually in the park. For those who didn’t see Three Mile Island’s latest meltdown, it was… Read more »

Maybe I missed something along the way and am misappropriating the credit, but Ed calling Brothers “Three Mile Island” has to be one of my all-time favorite names! Second only to Berman’s Bert “Be Home” Blylevin!

It’s gotten to the point that comic relief is all we have left this (and last, and the one before) season.

It sure does make writing pre/post games more fun…TMI, Fine China, Betty, etc…sort of our “inside joke” amongst the RWO crowd…
