White Sox Humiliate Rox

The Morales/Lopez apologists won’t find much in the way of argument ammo after a completely dismal showing Tuesday night at Coors field.  The team came into the game with visions of a second series win within their grasp, only to watch as Rockies pitching looked like they were applying for the home run derby staff as opposed to actual major league pitchers.

Morales gave up six runs on eight hits over six and a third while Lopez unbelievably MATCHED that feat in just two-thirds of an inning. Morales gave up two long balls over his innings, where Lopez bested him, giving up three.

Now that takes skill.

The White Sox pitcher, Quintana, on the other hand was spectacular.  He went seven innings only giving up two runs.  One of those came off a Cuddy solo-shot to left-center.

Tyler Chatwood, who is quickly rehabbing from his ill-advised triple at the end spring training, pitched extremely well for CS.  He pitched a rehab game and struck out eight over 6 1/3.

I willingly admit I am a Franklin apologist. When or maybe if everyone comes back healthy I would expect he will head to the BP. He hit 6.94 because of his performance last night. I suspect Wilton’s days as a Rockie are numbered. I know there are a lot of Bettis supporters so I will just say his era is now 12.27. I know what lineup I like seeing and what lineup I don’t. Last night’s game was ugly. I’m… Read more »

Last night gave WW a lot of clarity for the roster in the near term. In our bad loss games of the season, it was usually the bullpen that blew up. We’ve learned that Wiltin’ had really earned that nickname. He is still the 2013 version despite a good spring training. Chad Bettis looks not quite ready for the MLB; just needs a little more work. Matty is Matty, good enough to keep the job for now (hope the 4-runs… Read more »

QUOTE—-As EdtheUmp preaches, “NEVER EVER throw a strike with a 0-2 count.”

I think that was the first thing Ed ever said to me….and those of us who have attended games with Ed heard him in our heads last night as that ball was heading towards Fort Collins…at least it gave me a good chuckle….

We are all talking about Wilton Lopez, but what was with the decision to go with Bettis with two on in a 2 run game? The Rox had momentum it seemed, wouldn’t anyone else besided Bettis and Lopez have worked in that spot?

Pooter, I agree with you. The game turned on Bettis not being able to get Abreu. If he does, Morales stats aren’t terrible. I know he’s someone’s fair-headed boy, but I haven’t been impressed yet. Maybe he needs more time, he certainly needs an out pitch.

Glad they brought up Ruteledge. Hope they use him. Culberson should not be playing short.

Jaredean – I couldn’t agree more with this comment. That guy is 27 – he’s played since he was 17 or 18 in the Cuban “major” league. He had a better track record than any Cuban defector……and some of the ones with lesser records (Chapman, Cespedes, etc) have proven very, very worthy. So I didn’t think he was a risk. I read several scouting accounts claiming right handed Ryan Howard (Howard started in the majors late as well – 25… Read more »

uh oh. pitching philosophy. never throw a strike with an 0-2. In general I think coaches definitely agree with that and it may be more the norm at the college level but there are some that may not. They believe the situation dictates. Then there is the it’s ok to throw a strike as long as it’s not a curve ball. Who is batting, who is catching, and the pitcher all make a big difference in the approach. Speaking of… Read more »
